FAQ

Welcome to Sunrise Little League! Please read on to find general information to the frequently asked questions about the upcoming season.

How many baseball games are there and what day of the week are the games scheduled? The spring season consists of 20 games. Two games are played each week, one weekday game and one weekend game. The fall season consists of 12 games. All weekend games are played on Sunday. One weekday game will be played any day during the week for the first 4 weeks (depending on the division).

When does the season start and how long is it? Sunrise conducts two (2) separate baseball seasons, our Spring and Fall programs. Our primary season is the spring, which is sanctioned, governed and chartered by Little League Baseball. In the spring, opening day is always the first Saturday in March and the season will continue through late May/early June. In the Fall, the first game is scheduled in mid-September and will continue through the first weekend in November.

Does Sunrise Little League offer Softball? Yes, for the first time ever, Sunrise Little League will offer Spring softball in 2012.  Since this will be the inaugural season, many details are still being determined such as the number of games, location of the games, days of the week games are played on, etc.   After the registration period is complete, we will have a better idea of the number of players and will be able to make decisions about the 1st season of play.  Based on the number of players, an interlink with other local Little Leagues may be necessary whereby players registered to play Softball with Sunrise Little League will play at other leagues.

When do the practices start and how many practices per week are there? Practices will start approximately one month prior to the start of the season and teams typically have one to two practices each week depending on the division of play.

How much does it cost to register and what do the fees include? The cost depends on the season and time of registration. We offer early-bird discounts and sibling discounts.  In the spring, the registration fee includes a team jersey, hat, yearbook, trophy and basic picture package. In the fall, the registration fee only includes a team shirt and hat.  All registration fees increase the closer you get to the registration deadline date.

How does league age differ from actual age? League age is your child’s age as of April 30, 2012.  Please register your child for the appropriate program based on his/her league age. Please ask one of the league representatives if you are uncertain.

My child is 6; can he/she play in the coach pitch division? No, all players league age 5 and 6 will be placed in the t-ball division regardless of ability.

Can I request that my child play in a certain division? Sunrise cannot guarantee that a child will move up or be placed in a specific division with his/her peers. However, a request may be made by a parent to hold back a child in a division. Please understand that all players are evaluated during tryouts and many factors go into a draft. Your child will have a much more successful and satisfying season playing at the appropriate level.

Can I request to play on the same team with a friend? In T-ball, we will try to accommodate requests to be on a team with one friend; however, because we try and keep the teams balanced and fair, we are unable to honor requests in coach pitch thru majors.

Where can I register my child for baseball and softball? All registration is completed online. Please visit sunrisebaseball.com and click on the registration button.  Spring 2012 Baseball and  Softball Registration will end on December 31, 2011 at 11:59pm.

Registration is not complete until until payment and two snack shack deposits have been received.  In order for your child to tryout and be drafted onto a team both the payment and the snack shack deposits must be received.  If you pay by check, your child may be placed on a waiting list if payment has not been provided by the registration end date.  Payment can be mailed to: Sunrise Little League, Attn: Registrar, PO Box 3169, Winnetka, CA 91306.

What else do I need to provide to complete my registration? To complete the registration process, you’ll need to show the player’s original birth certificate, 3 proofs of residency and TWO snack shack deposits of $75.00 each (cash or check payable to Sunrise Little League). Please bring everything the day of try-outs or mail to: Sunrise Little League, Attn: Registrar, PO Box 3169, Winnetka, CA 91306

What is the snack shack, and why do I have to submit a $75.00 deposit? Sunrise Little League is a volunteer-based league and is completely run by volunteers. We need support from every family to ensure a successful little league program. During the spring season, each family is required to work two shifts (per child) in the snack shack. During the fall season, each family is required to work one shift (per child) in the snack shack. Each shift lasts approximately 2 ½ hours. Once your shift is completed, your $75.00 deposit will be returned to you. If you do not show up to your assigned shift, your $75.00 will be cashed.

faqDoes my child have to try-out and when is it? It is imperative that every child try-out. Each child is evaluated during try-outs to keep the teams balanced during the draft. To find your child’s try-out time, please reference your child’s league age and first letter of their last name. Please bring your child to the field 15 minutes prior to his/her scheduled try-out to allow time to sign in and warm up.

Please note the Snack Shack deposit is due at registration. Players will NOT be allowed to participate in try-outs without the snack shack deposit.

What does my child need to bring to try-outs? Please have your child dressed in baseball attire or comfortable clothing (i.e. sweats) and bring his/her baseball equipment (glove, bat, cleats and hat).

What if my child can’t attend try-outs (due to vacation, illness)? While we highly encourage all players to try-out, we understand that things come up that make it difficult for a player to attend try-outs. If your child is unable to make it, please contact Kelly Beder at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . You will be contacted if the league decides to schedule make-up try-outs.
